For the traveler whose congregation is a folded list of names in six cities.
The people who've discipled you most in the last four years are people you'll never sit in a room with again.
Odd as that sentence looks about your own life, you know before you finish reading it that it's accurate. A man in one city corrected you about something you'd been saying carelessly for years, and he did it so kindly that you thanked him for it.
A household in another city fed you four times when you'd nowhere to be, and never once asked what you did for a living.
You have their names on a piece of paper in your wallet, folded twice, soft at the creases. You wrote it out because a phone gets replaced and you didn't trust a screen with it.
You stand under a departure board most weeks watching a row of cities reshuffle, and at least three of those city names have a person behind them. Then a colleague asks whether you go anywhere, and you say no, because the alternative is explaining a folded list to somebody waiting for a one-word answer.
That paper is a record of connection rather than a list of absences. The written Word believers into one body wherever they stand, and the Spirit joined every name on it to you.

The List Is Not a Consolation Prize
Here's the quiet assumption underneath your one-word answer, and it's worth pulling into daylight.
You have been treating the list as what you got instead of a church. A collection of fragments, useful, affectionate, and not the real object. Six pieces where a whole thing ought to be.
Notice what's actually on that paper, though. Somebody who fed you. Somebody who corrected you. Somebody who's prayed about the same situation in your family for three years without needing to be reminded. Somebody who told you the truth about yourself when it cost them an evening.
Read it again and ask what a congregation is supposed to do for a person. Feeding, correcting, praying, telling the truth. Your list isn't what you got instead. It's the work itself, delivered across six cities by people who'd no idea they were a list.
You are receiving the actual work of the body, however scattered its delivery looks. Scripture describes members supplying and correcting one another rather than merely assembling, and the Spirit distributes that supply across whatever distance you're traveling.
Written to People Who Moved Constantly
Here's the verse, and its first readers weren't a settled crowd either.
Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.1 Corinthians 12:27 (KJV)
Corinth was a port. Traders, sailors, soldiers, people passing through with cargo, and people who'd arrived from somewhere else and never quite landed anywhere.
The sentence doesn't adjust for any of that. It doesn't say you're members while you stay put. There's no clause about frequency and no clause about residence, and Paul knew exactly who he was writing to.
Those words went first into a specific harbor town full of movement, and membership in this body has never once been conditional on staying still.
You're a member in particular while you're in motion, and motion was never an exception clause. Scripture's sentence stands written without any condition about where you sleep, and the Spirit keeps it in force under a departure board.
What the Board Actually Shows
Say something about that board, because you look at it more than most people look at anything.
A departure board is a record of connections. Every line on it is a place you can reach from where you're standing, and the whole point of the object is that none of the destinations are here. Nobody reads a departure board and concludes they're stranded.
Yet you've been reading your own life exactly that way. Six cities, six names, nothing local, therefore nothing. You've been treating a list of connections as a list of absences.
The same paper says two different words depending on which one you decide it says. One of those readings is true and the other has been costing you sleep in about six hotels a month.
Neither reading changes a single name on the list. That's the part worth noticing. The paper is identical under both, which means the difference has never been in the evidence.
You can read your own list as connection rather than absence, because that's what it records. The written word names you joined to believers you aren't standing beside, and the Spirit holds those joints across every city on the board.
I Am Not Telling You to Settle Down
Be plain about what this won't do, because it's been pastored badly before.
I'm not going to tell you the answer is to stop traveling and find somewhere. Your work is your work. If a day comes when you're in one place and a room opens up to you, that will be good and I'll be glad. But this stands complete if you're still under that board in five years.
Nor am I telling you the people who stay are missing something you have. They aren't. They hold a form of this that I'm not carrying either, and setting the two against each other would only hand you a different reason to feel superior or inferior.
What I want taken off you is the word nothing. The list stays. The travel stays.
You can keep your whole life as it is and stop calling it nothing. Christ never called it that, and neither did any of the six.
The List Was the Record
The turn here happens in your wallet rather than in your schedule.
You've been carrying that paper as a souvenir of people you lost access to. Unfold it once more and read it as what it actually is: a membership record. Six names, each one a member of the same body, each one joined to you by the same Christ.
You didn't make that list. You wrote it down, which is a different act. The joining was done for you, and you've been keeping the minutes of it in your back pocket for four years without realizing that's what you were doing.
Nobody issued you a directory when you left. So you wrote your own, and then mistook it for evidence of loss.
You're holding a record of a body you're inside, and you've been reading it as a list of what you lost. The written word calls each of those names a member in particular alongside you, and the Spirit made every entry on that paper true.
Declare this over yourself
You are in Christ and Christ is in you, so what follows is not a claim made out of your own authority. It is agreement, said back to God in His own words, while the Holy Spirit carries it. How He orders the rest of it is His to decide, and He answers in His own way and in His own time.
The standing behind these words is His rather than yours. You belong to Him, He indwells you, and the Spirit carries agreement to God. He answers in His own way and His own hour.
Speak it through, unhurried, to the end.
The names in my pocket are a record of connection, and I stop reading them as a list of absences. It is written that now ye are the body of Christ, and he wrote it into a harbor town full of people passing through. The Spirit joined me to every name on this paper and keeps those joints while I am in motion. I am not stranded. This is a directory I wrote without knowing what I was writing. I receive what I have been given in six cities.
